About Alanna ..
A unique and independent voice in the yoga community in the US and abroad, Dr.Alanna Kaivalya has educated and inspired thousands across all forms of media as she lives out her mission to make yoga-physical, psychological, and spiritual-accessible to all.
Teaching students since 2001 and teachers since 2003, Alanna has written, developed, and lead teacher trainings around the world. Her ability to make the complex accessible and to enliven material with myth and story has lead top studios nationwide to commission programs for their own use. In 2015 she launched the first online yoga teacher training, among other courses, available at AlannaK.com.
She holds a Ph.D. in Mythological Studies with an Emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and has authored numerous articles and papers as well as three books: Myths of the Asanas: Stories from the Heart of the Yoga Tradition (Mandala Publishing, 2010), a wildly popular go-to guide for practitioners who are interested in the stories of the origins of beloved poses. Sacred Sound: Discovering the Myth and Meaning Behind Mantra and Kirtan (New World Library, 2014), the quintessential yoga "hymnal" for today's most popular chants and mantras, illustrating their powerful role within our modern practice. Her third book, Yoga Beyond the Mat (Llewellyn, 2016), released this October, focuses on unlocking spiritual practice, personal ritual, and blissful integration, has been called "...groundbreaking" "...liberating" "...transformative."
Alanna has taught for Yoga Journal Live!, The Omega Institute, Kripalu, and Esalen retreat centers. She has been featured in Yoga Journal, Origin, Mantra Magazine, Yoga International, Sweat Equity, Mindful Magazine and many others throughout her years of practice. In 2007, she had the esteemed honor of being elected to Yoga Journal's top 21 teachers under 40 list. In 2005, her first podcast, and the first by any yoga instructor, garnered over 2 million listeners. Her website, alannak.com, features an exhaustive body of content diligently compiled to provide access to high quality resources and education for yoga practitioners in any location. After clearing customs and formalities, our Learning Journeys Representative will be waiting to warmly greet you in the arrival lounge and transfer to hotel. Welcome to India's capital city. Contemporary Delhi is a bustling metropolis, which successfully combines the ancient with the modern. Amidst the fast spiraling skyscrapers the remnants of a bygone time in the form of its many monuments stand as silent. Perhaps there is no other capital city in the world so steeped in history and legend as the Indian capital Delhi. Overnight in Delhi (Meal: None)
|Day 3||Delhi||Spiritual Delhi|
This morning you will meet your Learning Journeys Program Manager, Sandesh Singh, who will greet you with a warm smile. He will accompany your journey from start to finish, managing all details of the program and sharing his vast knowledge of India from a spiritual, historical and cultural view. His joyous smile and love for India is heart-warming. After breakfast, proceed for a combined Spiritual tour of Old and New Delhi. Visit Iskcon,a Krishna temple, and spend some time there. Meet with a priest to discuss spirituality. Lunch at Local Restaurant Visit Old Delhi narrow lanes market with cycle rickshaw ride, Raj Ghat and Gandhi Museum. Also visit Sikh Temple and reach Brila Temple for aarti (around 6:00 PM) Come together for dinner Veda Restaurant at Connaught Place. Overnight in Delhi (Meal: B, L, D)
After breakfast, drive to Jaipur (approx 6 hours) - the Pink City! Jaipur (the City of Victory), was founded in 1727. It is the only city in the world symbolizing the nine divisions of the Universe through nine rectangular sectors sub-dividing it. The city was painted pink in 1853 in honour of the visit by Prince Albert. Except for the busy traffic of bicycles, cars and buses, little seems to have changed.
Lunch enroute OR at the hotel in Jaipur Upon arrival Jaipur, check-in at the hotel. In the evening walk through colorful buzzing local markets. Visit some shops as Jaipur is the paradise of shoppers. Overnight in Jaipur (Meal: B, L, D)
After early breakfast take an excursion to a magnificent fort known as Amber Fort. The fort is 11 kms away from main city and constructed on a hill. Return to the city by lunch hours.

After lunch, transfer in time to the airport for flight to Varanasi - the city of ancient civilization! Upon arrival in Varanasi, transfer to hotel. Varanasi, the city of Lord Shiva on the banks of the Ganges, is one of Hinduism's seven holiest cities. With its temples, over a hundred ghats and labyrinth of streets, the city cannot be described, only experienced. To visit the Ganga at Varanasi is to truly touch the soul of India. Also called Benares or Kashi, Varanasi is the oldest living city in India, and one of the world's most ancient, a contemporary of Babylon, Nineveh and Thebes. Hindu devotional movements flourished here, and it is still the chief center of Sanskrit learning in North India. Dinner at hotel. Overnight in Varanasi (Meal: B, L, D)
Early morning (about 5:30 am) visit the Ganges - the most sacred river of the world. Ride on a boat and witness the rituals and activities being performed by locals. At sunrise, the Hindu Faithfull's flock to the river to cleanse themselves of their sins. It is said that 'To die in Varanasi is to end the Hindu cycle of re-birth' thereby making it a popular place to end one's life. Take a boat ride on Ganges. Return to the hotel for breakfast and later visit famous Shiva Temple and walking through lanes. Also visit an NGO and spend some time there. In the evening, you would be taken to the Ghats to see the Ganga Aarti ceremony - an experience of life. The Ganga Aarti is a spectacular illuminated sight. Hundreds throng to the ghats to participate in this ceremony. Offerings of lamps and flowers are made to the river immediately following this ceremony and it is a moving sight to watch hundreds of miniature lamps float along the river. After breakfast, check-out from hotel and drive to Bodhgaya (about 5.5 hours) - the city of Buddha!
The quiet village of Bodhgaya is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage centers in the world. It was here that Buddha attained Enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree, the saplings of which can still be seen on the temple premises. Most countries with a large Buddhist population have a temple or monastery here. Upon arrival check-in and lunch at hotel.
Later, visit the Mahabodhi Temple, with its 54m high pyramidal spire and large gilded image of the Enlightened Buddha. See the Bodhi Tree at whose foot is a sandstone slab (Vajrasila) marking the spot where Buddha sat in meditation. Also see the monasteries, the archaeological museum and the great 25-meter Buddha statue. Dinner at hotel. Overnight in Bodhgaya (Meal: B, L, D)
After breakfast, visit some monasteries and spend some time with a Monk.

After early breakfast, transfer to New Delhi Railway Station for train to Haridwar The word Haridwar is the combination of two words "Hari" means the God and "Dwar" means the gate. The literary meaning of Haridwar is the gate to Gods. The city is located at the point where theGanges leaves the Himalayas to begin its journey across the plains, makes it a particularly holy place. Every 12 years the Kumbh festival attracts millions of pilgrims who come and bathe in the river. Various episodes from the Hindu epic Mahabharata are set in this ancient town.
Visit Matranchal Orphanage for Girls. "Matranchal" means "Mother`s lap" which is very true with this organization. The organization not only gives love and shelter to girls but also provide them with quality education so these girls can live their life independently.
Today's lunch will be with a local family. Your host is a middle class family of India, Nettu and Sandesh Singh. After an interactive lunch /cooking session with the family your host lady would love to take you to the market. In the evening, attend Aarti on the bank of holy river Ganges at Har-ki-pauri ghats.
Drive to Rishikesh (approx 01 hour drive) - at a height of about 1360 feet above sea level, is the Gateway to the Himalayas and a major centre of spirituality and pilgrimage. Several temples dot the banks of the Ganges at Rishikesh. Since ages, yogis & sadhus lived and practiced religion here. This small hill town got an introduction to the western world in late 60's when Beatles stayed at an Ashram here. |Day 11||Rishikesh||Rishikesh-Kunjapuri Temple|
After breakfast, take an excursion Kunjapuri Temple - situated at the height of 1645 meters above the sea level, the temple is dedicated to the Goddess Shakti who donated power. One need to trek 150 steep steps one side to reach the temple but tiredness is compensated by the breathtaking view to the Himalaya. On the way back, visit a village and meet some locals there. Carry packed lunch today. Afternoon is free for optional Ayurvedic treatment.

|Day 12||Rishikesh||Rishikesh-Purkal Village Community Visit|
Today, on site visit to Purukal Youth Development Society, a community organization that strives for excellence in rural children through free holistic education, day long nutrition, and complete health care. It has dual focus - development of individual capacity of the underserved and the consequent building of community capacity. The NGO is not only running a school but also ensuring student's transition into a successful adulthood. In addition to education, the NGO has taken several community development initiatives like - employment to the ladies of rural community, health & sanitation, social causes (such as domestic violence against females, child abuse, dowry, alcoholism, female infanticide and foeticide etc) and natural disaster relief.
Enjoy your lunch with the staff and children here at Purukal. In the evening, get ready with your questions as you will meet an Astrologer. Astrology in India has deep roots and surprisingly most of the people have deep faith in it. This is going to be an interesting session for you. Overnight in Rishikesh (Meal: B, L, D)
|Day 13||Delhi||Vashistha Gufa -Rafting-Delhi|
After breakfast drive uphill to visit Vashistha Gufa (the cave) which is one of the places, where Sadhus and Yogis used to stay in ancient times during meditation period. Start a thrilling rafting session downstream. Return to hotel for shower and change.
Check-out and have lunch before drive to Delhi (approx 6-7 hours drive). Dinner at hotel (near airport) and transfer in time to airport for flight back to home. (No Hotel Today) (Meal: B, L, D)
