|Day 1||Manaus||After arriving at your hotel, meet for guided sightseeing of Manaus to view vestiges of its glory days during the rubber boom. First stop: the famed OPERA HOUSE, built in 1896 with materials imported from Europe. Next, visit a bustling LOCAL MARKET, abundant with local foods and wares. (D)|
|Day 2||Amazon Jungle||Today, your 'Meeting of the Waters' tour passes the impressive British-built Customs House and the floating port. CRUISE on the chocolate-colored Rio Negro to its confluence with the yellow-gray Rio Solimoes, where the two rivers form the mighty Amazon. For four miles the differently colored bodies of water flow side by side and never mix! After lunch on the river, explore a JUNGLE ISLAND (water level permitting) with fascinating native flora and fauna. Later, arrive at the Ecopark Jungle Lodge on the banks of the Rio Negro inside the Amazonian rainforest. (B,L,D)|
|Day 3||Amazon Jungle||Accompanied by a Naturalist, enjoy a guided WALK to see the flora and fauna that thrive in the Amazon. After lunch, depart the lodge and cruise up the river to visit an AMAZON NATIVE CABOCLO VILLAGE to learn about their traditions, costumes, and culture. Also try your hand at piranha fishing! Later, visit the MONKEY JUNGLE RESERVE, where researchers work to rehabilitate primates like spider, squirrel, woolly, and capuchin monkeys and reintroduce them to the jungle. This evening, venture back out on a canoe with your Naturalist to appreciate the sounds of the jungle at night, with the possibility to spot small alligators (or other night creatures). (B,L,D)|
|Day 4||Rio de Janeiro||This morning, depart the Ecopark for a flight to Rio for an overnight. (B)|
|Day 5||Rio de Janeiro||Today is free in Rio to explore as you please. This afternoon, meet your Tour Director and fellow traveling companions for a drive along famous Ipanema and Copacabana Beaches to the base of 1,300-foot-high SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN. Ascend by cable car to its summit, where you can savor spectacular vistas of the city. Next, at a local restaurant, [LF] learn about Brazil's national liqueur, cachaca, during a special tasting and toast the start of a memorable vacation with caipirinhas, a favorite Brazilian cocktail made with cachaca. Cap off the evening with a welcome dinner. (D)|
|Day 6||Rio de Janeiro||Today, visit the statue of Christ the Redeemer crowning CORCOVADO MOUNTAIN, a rounded peak rising 2,300 feet from the bay below. Take the scenic cog railway ride to its top, where a 360-degree panorama affords sweeping views. Proceed to bustling downtown Rio. View the Sambodromo and visit the CATHEDRAL. This afternoon, you may wish to join an optional trip into a local favela to see where 20% of Rio's population lives. Visits include a community center and a school. This evening, it's time to learn to Samba during your [LF] SAMBA LESSON before you experience a professional SAMBA SHOW, where the sheer vitality of this country explodes in a colorful extravaganza. |Day 7||Rio de Janeiro||A day of leisure or consider an optional trip to historic Petropolis, once the former summer palace of Emperor Dom Pedro II and now a mountain resort. (B)|
|Day 8||Rio de Janeiro||Enjoy another day to explore Rio and perhaps venture into Tijuca Rainforest in the middle of the city. Search for fauna such as monkeys, sloths, toucans, and macaws, and enjoy panoramic vistas. (B)|
|Day 9||Iguassu Falls||A flight from Rio takes you to IGUASSU FALLS. Experience the clouds of spray, the incessant roar, and the surrounding luxuriant tropical growth that make this an unforgettable natural wonder. Spend the afternoon enjoying the magnificent panorama of waterfalls from the Brazilian side. Your Local Guide introduces the spectacle of this 2-mile-wide torrential downpour, with some cataracts as high as 250 feet-it's nothing short of hypnotic! (B,D)|
|Day 10||Iguassu Falls||Today, journey to the Argentine side of IGUASSU FALLS, where you will take the ECOLOGICAL JUNGLE TRAIN and enjoy a closer perspective on a walking tour of the falls. Meander along the walkways from atop the falls, and enjoy an exhilarating perspective looking over the precipice of the falls as the water plunges to the rocks below. You will also have the chance to walk through the rainforest on the lower falls trails that will bring you up close to some of the smaller falls. This afternoon, perhaps opt for a visit to the Bird Park for the opportunity to spot birds in their native rainforest environment. Huge aviaries are home to more than 900 tropical birds of 150 species. On a walking tour, learn about the various birds found here, and the ongoing effort to protect and conserve these native birds. Booking your Vacation with Air
For air departure dates within 331 days, you'll be offered a choice of carriers and flight schedules as well as price points to choose from when selecting your flights. Your schedule will be provided to you at the time of booking (schedules are subject to change by carriers). Globus offers 2 air options: Flex Air and Instant Purchase Air. Flex Air allows flexibility if you want to make changes to your vacation schedule. Instant Purchase Air may offer additional airline options but has more restrictions. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option. Guaranteed air-inclusive prices: air is only available to passengers traveling from the United States and only available when booked in conjunction with a land vacation. An additional $300 per person non-refundable air deposit is required for Flex Air booked in conjunction with any land vacation (i.e. air-inclusive vacation). Air can only be booked by Globus in conjunction with a vacation package. Instant Purchase Air requires air payment in full at time of booking (i.e. air-inclusive vacation) plus non-refundable per person service fee ($30 for North/Central America, $50 for Europe/Middle East and $80 for all other destinations. Once booked, Instant Purchase Air is non-refundable, and non-changeable. Some vacations may only offer one Air type option. At the time of booking your air-inclusive vacation online, carrier Websites will be provided to check baggage fees, or you can visit www.iflybags.com for up-to-date baggage pricing/restrictions. For return travel from some countries, international travelers are required to pay entry and/or exit fees at the airport. These fees will be collected by the local government and are payable by the traveler at time of travel. Your confirmation booking information will contain information about these fees.
